Our Church History

Evangelistic Missionary Baptist Church has a rich history rooted in faith, perseverance, and service to the community. From humble beginnings to where we are today, each step of our journey reflects God’s guidance and the dedication of those who came before us.

1964 – September

Rev. Albert D. Southall is called to pastor at 716 San Pedro Street.

1973 – March

Down payment made on the San Pedro Street property.

1976 – April

Mortgage Burning Service held.

1977 – July

San Pedro church house is condemned.

1981 – July

Construction begins on the Pearl Street church building.

1976 – April

Mortgage Burning Service held.

1981 – August to 1983 – March

Worship services held at various local churches during construction.

1983 – April

Victory March” from San Pedro Street to the first Palm Sunday service at Pearl Street.

1985 – June

Property at 117 Pearl Street purchased.

1992 – July

Founder and Pastor Rev. Albert D. Southall retires.

1992 – July to 1994 – March

Interim ministers serve the congregation.

1993 – January

Pulpit Search Committee formed.

1994 – March

Rev. Wesley Nathaniel, Jr. installed as Pastor.

1997 – May

Property at 117 Pearl Street paid off in full.

1998 – September

First Annual “Praise in the Park” held.

2000 – April

Property at 125 Pearl Street paid off in full.

2004 – October

Rev. Nathaniel called to serve in another ministry.

2004 – November to 2007 – May

Interim ministers serve the church.

2005 – March

Pulpit Search Committee reconvened.

2008 – January

Rev. David January begins pastoral service.

2008 – December

Rev. January called to another ministry.

2009 – April

Pulpit Search Committee meets.

2010 – January

Bishop Princeton L. Allen begins as Pastor.

2012 – April

Bishop Allen called to another ministry.

2012 – April

Rev. Torrence K. Nivens appointed as Acting Pastor.

2013 – January

Rev. Nivens becomes Pastor of Evangelistic MBC.

2014 – November

Planning begins for church remodel.

2016 – June

Church remodel begins. Worship held at Living Hope Church Fellowship Hall.

2016 – December

Church remodel completed.

2016 – December 25

Worship resumes at 125 East Pearl Street.
